Synopsis

Sen Takatsuki is a best-selling novelist whose books are dark enough that Haise Sasaki — the amnesiac identity of Ken Kaneki — builds a psychological profile of her from them alone, describing an author consumed by despair and hatred for the world. He isn't entirely wrong, though he has no way of knowing the woman behind the pen name is also Eto, founding leader of Aogiri Tree and the ghoul known to the CCG as the One-Eyed Owl.

As Takatsuki, she plays a very different role than she does as a ghoul executive: playful, disorganized, prone to oversleeping on the morning of her own book signings. During one such event she meets Hinami Fueguchi, who has come to buy a book as a gift for the man Hinami calls her big brother — Kaneki himself, though Takatsuki has no idea at the time just how tangled their lives already are. She later sits down with investigators Yukinori Shinohara and Juuzou Suzuya for an interview, gathering information on the CCG while hiding in plain sight as a public figure.

Behind both identities lies the same origin: the daughter of Yoshimura and Ukina, orphaned in ghoul territory as an infant and shaped into one of the story's most dangerous figures. Some suspect Takatsuki's alter ego to be the elusive One-Eyed King — a claim she herself denies.
