Yoshimura

Yoshimura is the manager of the Anteiku café and, unbeknownst to most patrons, an SSS-rated ghoul who devotes himself to helping other ghouls survive without preying on humans who cannot defend themselves. He takes in the newly transformed Ken Kaneki, teaching him how to live as a half-ghoul rather than simply how to kill.

Wise, patient, and deliberately soft-spoken, Yoshimura commands genuine respect as a de facto peacekeeper of the 20th ward, though his motives are questioned by ghouls like Nishiki Nishio who sense there is more to his calm authority than kindness alone. That suspicion is well founded — for years, Yoshimura secretly poses as the terrifying One-Eyed Owl to cover for the real Owl's rampages, protecting the true identity of his daughter, Eto.

Once known as Kuzen, a ghoul who resented his own nature enough to eat other ghouls, Yoshimura's transformation into Anteiku's gentle manager represents one of the series' clearest examples of redemption — a monster who chose, deliberately and for decades, to become something closer to human.
