Synopsis
Nishiki Nishio is a ghoul whose feeding ground was taken over by Rize Kamishiro, forcing him into an uneasy overlap with Ken Kaneki's territory. Once a pharmaceutical student at Kamii University, he later becomes a waiter at Anteiku after a brutal fight with Kaneki, dating a human classmate, Kimi Nishino, whom he struggles to protect from his own nature.
Sharp-tongued and arrogant, Nishio has little patience for people he considers beneath him and demands the respect his seniority is due, but underneath the abrasive attitude lies a cautious, protective streak — particularly toward Kimi, once she learns his secret and chooses to stay with him anyway. The CCG later nicknames him Serpent for his habit of extracting information from ghouls before killing them.
As Anteiku's circle draws closer together, Nishio grows from an outright rival of Kaneki's into a reluctant but genuine ally, eventually contributing his research skills to the group's efforts and standing by Anteiku's remaining staff through the organization's darkest years.
