Synopsis
Rize Kamishiro is the ghoul whose fateful encounter with Ken Kaneki sets the entire series in motion. Publicly the foster daughter of Matasaka Kamishiro, she is secretly the illegitimate daughter of a former CCG chairman, born into the secretive Washuu Clan and raised as breeding stock for the organization V before escaping as a child.
Known in the underworld as Binge Eater for her voracious, indiscriminate appetite, Rize is a self-assured femme fatale who treats other ghouls and humans alike as either prey or playthings, rarely showing genuine attachment to anyone. Kazuichi Banjou is a notable exception — he falls for her independence and strength, though his feelings go largely unreciprocated.
When Rize targets Kaneki on what he believes is a date, a falling construction beam kills her and leads surgeons to transplant her organs into him — inadvertently creating the story's protagonist. Though she dies early in the timeline, Rize's kakuhou and her lingering presence in Kaneki's psyche continue to shape his powers and identity long after her death.
