Synopsis
Kazuichi Banjou is a ghoul and former leader of the 11th ward who now leads the 6th ward instead, always accompanied by his loyal followers Ichimi, Jiro, and Sante. He first appears as an associate of Rize Kamishiro, having fallen for her fierce independence even though his feelings were never returned.
Peaceful by nature and notably weak in direct combat for a ghoul, Banjou admires strength and freedom in others rather than seeking it for himself, and shows a surprising depth of compassion — including toward Ken Kaneki, whose inner turmoil he senses and understands better than most. After Aogiri Tree captures and pressures him, Kaneki rescues him, earning Banjou's unwavering loyalty.
From that point on, Banjou stands firmly with Kaneki's group and later the broader peacekeeping movement, trading his old life defying Aogiri for one built around protecting the people who showed him kindness — a quiet redemption arc built on gratitude rather than ambition.
