Synopsis
Akira Mado is an Associate Special Class Ghoul Investigator with the CCG, remembered for her sharp analytical mind and her devotion to a job she took up despite watching it damage her family. She is the daughter of Kasuka Mado, killed by a ghoul years before the story begins, and of Kureo Mado, whose obsession with avenging his wife eventually consumed him too. Partnered early on with Koutarou Amon, Akira inherited her father's near-obsessive fascination with quinques, though she keeps it far better contained.
During the search for Dr. Akihiro Kanou, Akira and Amon are ambushed by fighting ghouls, among them Naki, who wounds her leg badly enough to sideline her. Afterward, drinking with Amon and Seidou Takizawa, a rare crack appears in her composure: she admits, only half-joking, that she blames Amon for her father's death.
Professional to a fault, Akira rarely lets colleagues see past her reserve, preferring the quiet precision of maintaining her quinque to any personal conversation. Years later she becomes the mentor of Haise Sasaki, the amnesiac identity of Ken Kaneki, and it is largely through him that she finally begins to let her guarded emotions show.
