Synopsis
Koutarou Amon is a former First Class Ghoul Investigator shaped by a brutal orphan childhood that convinced him ghouls were the root of the world's suffering. Mentored first by Kureo Mado, he built a reputation as a dedicated, principled investigator who genuinely believed exterminating ghouls would mend the world.
That certainty cracks after Ken Kaneki spares his life during the Anteiku raid, an act of mercy Amon cannot reconcile with everything he was taught about ghouls being irredeemable monsters. Declared dead and posthumously promoted for his service, he in fact survives, transformed against his will into an artificial one-eyed ghoul — the very kind of existence he once dedicated his life to destroying.
Reappearing during the Rushima Landing Operation, Amon struggles to reconcile his old convictions with his new nature, eventually joining the peacekeeping organization Goat. His journey from a rigid crusader to someone capable of doubt and change makes him one of the series' clearest examples of its central theme — that the line between human and ghoul is far less certain than either side believes.
