Synopsis
Arata Kirishima (Kirishima Arata) is a ghoul from the 20th Ward and a supporting figure in Tokyo Ghoul. He is the husband of Hikari Kirishima and the father of Touka Kirishima and Ayato Kirishima. Ghoul investigators nicknamed him the "Corpse Collector," since he scavenged the bodies of dead ghouls and humans rather than hunting the living for food.
A gentle, scholarly pacifist, Arata cooked human food, read, crafted, and taught his children to endure hardship so they could coexist in both the human and ghoul worlds. That peaceful life collapsed when his wife Hikari was killed by Kishou Arima. Consumed by grief and a hunger for power, he began secretly cannibalizing corpses and eventually developed a koukaku kakuja. His daughter Touka later revealed a colder, more brutal side to him, as he killed both ghouls and investigators in revenge behind his children's backs.
His identity was exposed by investigators Yukinori Shinohara and Kureo Mado, and he was captured after a desperate battle with the CCG. His kakuhou was harvested to build an exoskeleton quinque named "Arata." His youthful appearance strongly resembles Ken Kaneki, which partly explains why Touka and Ayato are drawn to Kaneki. He is voiced by Yūya Uchida in Japanese and Robert McCollum in English.
