Synopsis
Kousuke Houji (Hōji Kōsuke) was a Special Class Ghoul Investigator of the CCG and a devoted master of the quinque, of whom it was said he had even surpassed his former partner Kureo Mado. Earlier in his career he was scouted for an assignment in China, where he became known for exterminating the ghoul organization Chi She Lian, and he later served as Branch Director of the CCG's 5th Ward office. Calm, polite and softly spoken, he was widely regarded as a decent man with a commanding presence.
Deployed to the 20th Ward alongside Yukinori Shinohara and his partner Seidou Takizawa, Houji worked on the Gourmet case. During the Owl Suppression Operation he brought out a massive koukaku quinque to deliver the finishing blow that felled Yoshimura, the Owl, though he was later knocked unconscious by the arriving One-Eyed Owl.
In the sequel, Tokyo Ghoul:re, Houji led a squad in the Rushima Landing Operation and confronted Tatara, a ghoul who bore him a long-standing grudge. When the artificial ghoul Takizawa slew Tatara, Houji, with tears in his eyes, ordered his troops to attack his former subordinate — an act that provoked the enraged Takizawa to slaughter the squad and behead him. He was voiced in Japanese by Shō Hayami, and in English by Wyn Delano and Chris Guerrero.
