Synopsis
Mamen Beans is the personal secretary to the Chairman of the Hunter Association, running an enormous volume of administrative work and supporting the Hunter Exam itself.
He looks like a bean and has no nose; whether he is human at all is unknown. He is short in stature, pink-skinned in the 1999 adaptation and green-skinned in the 2011 one, and is never seen out of a black tuxedo.
Beans comes across as a man of duty who brings not just diligence but genuine enthusiasm to the many errands the Association sends him on. His loyalty to Chairman Isaac Netero was absolute — enough that he agreed to deceive the Zodiacs in order to carry out his final will.
The two have known each other for at least twenty years. Beans learned of the existence of Netero's son Beyond and met him in person, and some three years before the 12th Chairman Election, Netero told him he intended to pick a vice chairman he would deliberately not get along with.
It was Beans who handed Gon, Kurapika and Leorio their number badges in Zaban City, and who tried to talk Menchi out of failing every applicant at once. Voiced by Ichitarō Ai in the 2011 series and Norihisa Mori in the 1999 one.
