Leorio Paladiknight

Leorio Paladiknight is one of the four leads of Hunter x Hunter and the Boar of the Hunter Association's Zodiacs. He first appears aboard the ship running from Whale Island to the site of the 287th Hunter Exam, alongside Gon and Kurapika.

He is a tall, solidly built young man with small brown eyes and a spiked black crew cut, invariably in a dark blue business suit with black shoes and tea-shade sunglasses — an outfit that leads most people to assume he is far older than he is.

Leorio initially presents himself as a self-absorbed materialist interested in nothing but money. He later admits to Kurapika what he actually wants: to become a doctor and treat the poor. He holds that everything in the world can be bought, and that a Hunter License is simply the fastest route to funding a medical education.

Behind the surface greed sits a personal loss: a close friend died of an illness that was entirely curable, and only the cost of the surgery stood in the way. Since then he has wanted not merely to practise medicine but to work pro bono for people who cannot pay.

His medical knowledge is real — the Kiriko's son called his first aid the best he had ever seen. By the 13th Chairman Election, Leorio had improved considerably and developed at least one Nen ability of his own. Voiced by Keiji Fujiwara in the 2011 series and Hozumi Gōda in the 1999 one.
