Synopsis
Hisashi Ogura (Ogura Hisashi) is a human ghoul researcher who frequently appears on television to discuss the creatures. According to Yukinori Shinohara, however, he is no real authority on the subject: rather a minor commentator who scavenges information from other sources and passes it off as his own in order to shine in the media.
Ogura is a publicity hound who plays the erudite whenever ghouls come up, chasing airtime with boastful, self-important remarks. In one interview he even mocked a news crew's qualifications on air. In his student days he attended Teihou University as part of its Ghoul Research Society, where Akihiro Kanou was introduced to him and his classmates.
He first appears in the prologue, speaking on TV about the killings blamed on the "Binge Eater." Later, Hideyoshi Nagachika mentions to Ken Kaneki that Ogura had resumed his broadcasts after the death of investigator Ippei Kusaba. Having read the book "King Bileygr," he swings to the pro-ghoul camp, praising them as intelligent beings and sporting a "ghoul lover" headband. Eventually he becomes Vice Secretary of the Great Wheel Act and a member of Goat.
In the "Tokyo Ghoul" anime he is voiced by Teruyuki Tanzawa in Japanese and Ed Blaylock in English.
