Synopsis
Kousei Arima is the protagonist of Your Lie in April, a piano prodigy who became the youngest winner of the Maihou Piano Competition. He was raised by his mother, Saki Arima, an acclaimed pianist whose training bordered on abusive; after her death he could no longer hear his own playing and stopped performing for two years.
At school Kousei is quiet and often oblivious to what happens around him, missing both the resentment of rival competitors and the fact that his childhood friend Tsubaki Sawabe has feelings for him. Despite this detachment he is genuinely kind-hearted and values his friends, including the easygoing football captain Ryota Watari.
Everything shifts when he meets a free-spirited violinist who is his exact opposite. Drawn to how openly she lives, Kousei slowly rediscovers his desire to play. He later comes under the care of Hiroko Seto, a pianist and close friend of his late mother.
He is a boy of average height with short black hair and dark blue eyes, reserved by nature but capable of real warmth once he lets someone in.
