Synopsis
Maiko Abe is a female ghoul who belongs to the Ghoul Restaurant, where she operates under the alias "Madam A." Slender, refined, and fond of classical fashion, she favors form-fitting dresses, round-rimmed shades, and a blonde wig gathered into buns, an elegant façade that masks a cold and reportedly sadistic streak. In Tokyo Ghoul she is voiced by Mayumi Asano in Japanese and by Lydia Mackay in the English dub.
Her comfortable life came from a chance encounter. Once poor and starving, Maiko once tried to devour Dr. Akihiro Kanou, only to be knocked back by his bodyguard. Rather than punish her, Kanou offered her employment, funding the lavish existence she now enjoys as Madam A. At the Ghoul Restaurant she owned a Scrapper named Taro, who took part in a dismantling show involving Ken Kaneki.
When Shuu Tsukiyama gravely wounded Taro, Madam A struck a deal, trading her fighter for a promised replacement. Her sharp instincts never failed her twice: she slipped away when the restaurant was attacked and, during the ghoul auction, fled through the air ducts moments before CCG forces stormed in. In the end she turned to farming, gaining a deep appreciation for the value of food and life, and even keeps a cow.
