Synopsis
Koori Ui is a Special Class Ghoul Investigator who commands the 3rd Ward and leads the CCG's S1 Squad, a former protégé of Kishou Arima known for an easygoing manner that lets him crack jokes even in the middle of a losing fight. During the Owl Suppression Operation he joins the assault on the One-Eyed Owl despite technically being outranked for it, fighting on after losing his own quinque and grabbing a spare from Kousuke Houji before ultimately being overwhelmed and forced out of the battle.
Beneath the humor, Koori carries a sharper instinct for danger than most of his colleagues, and after the story's timeskip he grows openly suspicious of Haise Sasaki, the amnesiac identity later revealed to be Ken Kaneki. Years of losing comrades — first during the Rushima Landing Operation, then the Third Cochlea Raid — leave him questioning what any of the fighting is actually for.
That doubt becomes a weakness Kichimura Washuu is able to exploit, offering Koori a way to bring back his dead partner. Desperate enough to accept, Koori grows harder and more willing to look away from corruption inside the CCG, so long as it still points toward the total extermination of ghouls he has spent his career chasing.
