Synopsis
Yuu Otosaka is the series' protagonist, a first-year transfer student at Hoshinoumi Academy whose ability lets him briefly possess another person's body for five seconds — a power he initially uses to cheat on exams and pick fights. Selfish and narcissistic at first, he is also unexpectedly sharp, capable of memorizing test answers and orchestrating elaborate schemes, even if he rarely applies that intelligence to anything constructive. The one person who consistently softens him is his younger sister, Ayumi.
After Nao Tomori exposes his cheating, Yuu and Ayumi transfer to Hoshinoumi Academy, where he joins the Student Council and learns his true ability is not possession but the theft of other ability users' powers entirely. Ayumi's death devastates him, sending him into a self-destructive spiral before Nao brings him back. Later, using powers taken from his older brother Shunsuke, Yuu gains the ability to leap through time in an attempt to undo the tragedy.
By the story's end, Yuu is feared and admired under the nickname One-Eyed Grim Reaper, having sacrificed his own future to protect other ability wielders from being hunted down — a complete reversal from the self-serving cheater introduced in the first episode.
