Hisoka Morow

Hisoka Morow, known as the Magician, is among the most dangerous and least predictable figures in Hunter x Hunter: a former member #4 of the Phantom Troupe, a Heavens Arena Floor Master, and a Hunter.

He looks like a cross between a stage magician and a jester — tall, heavily muscled and light-skinned, his outfit patterned with card suits and changed with every arc. A star is painted on his right cheek and a teardrop on his left.

Hisoka is entirely self-serving and does whatever pleases him. An insatiable appetite for spilling the blood of powerful fighters, and the pleasure he takes in extreme pain while doing it, make him openly sadomasochistic. Crucially, he deliberately spares anyone he sees potential in — so he can kill them later at their peak. That is why Gon and Kurapika are still alive.

He says little about his past because it does not interest him. He is known to have joined the Troupe under false pretences after the Kurta massacre, taking the previous #4's place. Around the same time he "initiated" Kastro into Nen. At the 286th Hunter Exam he murdered twenty applicants and was disqualified for nearly killing a proctor.

He is a Transmuter whose aura takes on the properties of chewing gum and can be stretched several metres. Voiced by Daisuke Namikawa in the 2011 series and Hiroki Takahashi in the 1999 one.
