Synopsis
Yuji Kanehara worked at a drone manufacturing company before becoming one of the earliest antagonists Division 01 encounters, an introverted man with a fragile ego who endured daily abuse and bullying from his co-workers without ever pushing back. Outwardly mild-mannered, he harbored deep resentment that eventually curdled into a plan for revenge, using the very technology his employer made against the people who tormented him.
Given a floppy disk by Shogo Makishima — labeled, tellingly, after a William Gibson cyberpunk story — Kanehara uses it to hijack a piece of industrial robotic equipment during a deliberate provocation from Shinya Kogami, turning the drone into a weapon against his former colleagues and the investigators sent after him. His attack marks one of Division 01's first direct brushes with Makishima's influence, though at the time neither Kogami nor Nobuchika Ginoza fully grasp the connection.
