Synopsis
Yuki Funahara works as a therapist-trainer at a local gym, a job the Sibyl System assigned her after deciding she wasn't suited for the professional athletic career she actually wanted. She is cheerful, a little clumsy, and has been Akane Tsunemori's closest friend since the two met in junior high school — their friendship starting, memorably, over a joke about Tsunemori's haircut.
That closeness makes her a target. Shogo Makishima uses Funahara as bait to lure Tsunemori's Enforcer, Shinya Kogami, into a trap, then kills her in front of Tsunemori as punishment for failing what he calls a test of character. Before that, Funahara had come to trust and even admire Kogami herself, having initially mistrusted him before watching him defeat a dangerous opponent and concluding that if all latent criminals were like him, she wouldn't mind becoming one.
Funahara's death becomes one of the defining traumas of Tsunemori's early career, a loss she carries long after the case that caused it is closed.
