Synopsis
Koma Enji is a ghoul and former waiter at the Anteiku café, an expert coffee brewer who acts as an informal supervisor for Ken Kaneki whenever Yoshimura is away. In his younger days, known simply as the Devil Ape, he led a violent gang called the Apes through years of rivalry with Kaya Irimi's Black Dobers.
Polite, playful, and quietly proud of both his craft and his old reputation, Koma is considerably more talkative with his coworkers than the reserved Irimi, and the two share a long history of loyalty to Yoshimura that predates their employment at Anteiku. Side stories reveal a warmer, more sentimental side beneath his workplace professionalism.
That loyalty costs him his life during the Anteiku raid: Koma fights and dies alongside Irimi defending the café, one of the quiet, dignified losses that close out Anteiku's story and set the surviving cast on their separate paths.
