Synopsis
Roland Chapelle is a lecturer at Tōtsuki Culinary Academy and head of its French Cuisine Division, appointed more than a decade before the story begins, around the time the 79th and 80th generations enrolled. He is famous, and feared, for a grading system that admits no middle ground: every dish he tastes is either an A or an outright E.
Roland is uncompromisingly serious about his native cuisine and remains an intimidating figure even to alumni who graduated years earlier under his tutelage, but he is also scrupulously fair, taking real pride whenever a former student manages to grow past whatever obstacle once held them back. His classes have earned a lasting reputation among students as one of the academy's harshest ordeals.
Sharp-eyed despite his stern demeanor, Roland noticed that a dish by Sōma Yukihira and Megumi Tadokoro had been sabotaged by other students, and chose not to punish the culprits directly, trusting that consequences would find them regardless.
