Zaratras

Zaratras was the Great Holy Knight of Liones and, before his death ten years before the story begins, the strongest knight in the kingdom's order. He was the father of Gilthunder and the direct superior of the Seven Deadly Sins during their time serving Liones, before they were framed for his murder.

Kind and refined, Zaratras used his power, Purge, to cleanse evil spirits and genuinely believed in the Seven Deadly Sins the same way King Bartra did, though he never hesitated to scold them for recklessness. Despite an outwardly serious demeanor, he was privately soft-hearted and prone to overemotional outbursts, to the point that Hawk initially assumed he had to be a fraud.

Zaratras's death is the tragedy that sets the entire story in motion: poisoned by his own half-brother Dreyfus under the influence of the demon Fraudrin, he dies believing his murder was somehow his own fault for not noticing something was deeply wrong with his friends, and the Seven Deadly Sins are wrongly blamed for a crime none of them committed.
