Synopsis

Ylva is the older sister of Thorfinn and the only daughter of Thors and Helga. Her arrival was a difficult birth for her mother, and Thors was at first disappointed that his child was not a boy. He tried to leave for war without naming her, but Helga insisted, so he chose his own mother's name on the spot. It was from this moment that Thors's outlook on warfare changed for good.

Ylva grew up in Iceland and, as the eldest child, carried much of the household's burden because of Helga's frail health. She is nine years older than her brother. After Thors was killed and Thorfinn vanished at sea alongside their father, Ylva became the family's main provider. She gained a reputation in the village as something of a rebel, since she had to fish, hunt whales, and take on every woman's task besides, throwing herself into work to compensate for her losses until Helga taught her self-control.

Ylva later married Ari and raised several children with him. When Thorfinn at last came home, she refused to believe it was truly him, then, recognizing him, scolded him bitterly for abandoning her and their mother. Through her family she is related to Thorkell. She is voiced by Hitomi Nabatame in Japanese, and by Olivia Swasey and Allegra Clark in English.
