Synopsis
Ari (アーレ, Āre) comes from the same Icelandic village as Thorfinn, the young hero of Vinland Saga. He is the husband of Ylva, Thorfinn's elder sister, which makes him a son-in-law to the chieftain Thors and Helga, and by marriage a kinsman of the famed warrior Thorkell. He and Ylva raise four children together.
Ari has jet-black hair worn in a ponytail and hazel eyes, standing around 170 cm tall. Before taking up arms he dressed plainly in a brown outfit with ash-gray sleeves and trousers, but he later donned chainmail, a helmet, and a red scarf. By 1018 he has grown some facial hair.
An ambitious warrior, Ari is deeply infatuated with his wife Ylva. He harbors bitter resentment toward the man who crippled his brother by severing his left leg. When Thorfinn returned home as a grown man, Ari recognized him at once and was glad to see him, though he was shaken by the tales of Thorfinn's long travels. He was voiced in Japanese by Mitsuhiro Ichiki.
