Synopsis
Akira Yamashita, known to her friends as Yama-chan, is the louder, more tomboyish half of Hiyori's friend duo, alongside the calmer Ami Tabata. She is openly boy-crazy and desperate to be popular, and not shy about admitting it, even while struggling academically enough to need repeated makeup exams.
Much of her arc among Hiyori's friends plays out through a crush on a classmate she is too nervous to approach directly — she ends up asking Hiyori to pass along contact details for her instead — before things take an unplanned turn and she starts dating his friend during a group outing, discovering they share far more in common than she expected. Underneath the teasing and boy talk, though, Akira is a genuinely loyal friend: she was there when Hiyori was struck by the truck that changed her life, helped call for help, and later stood by Hiyori's family without hesitation once real trouble found them.
