Shinigami

Death is the founder and headmaster of the DWMA, father to both Kid and Asura, and the meister whose weapon is Spirit Albarn. Centuries ago he sealed away the Kishin and took on the role of maintaining balance among humans, weapons, and witches.

For all his power and age, Death deliberately presents himself as goofy and unthreatening — speaking in a childlike voice and appearing behind a cartoonish skull mask with oversized foam gloves so as not to frighten his students. Underneath that act is a genuinely kind, wise, and deeply caring figure who looks out for everyone at the academy.

Death's death in the final confrontation with Asura is the story's turning point: it's the moment Kid inherits both his father's name and his responsibilities as headmaster.
