Nakabachi

Publicly known as Dr. Nakabachi, he is really Shouichi Makise, the father of Kurisu Makise. As a young man he belonged to an informal group with his friends Yukitaka Akiha and Suzu Hashida, half-jokingly called the Theory of Relativity Transcendence Committee, sharing a genuine dream of building a working time machine.

The deaths of both friends turned that dream into an obsession, and Shouichi threw himself into time-travel research hoping he might one day go back and save them. But his own daughter, a natural genius, kept disproving his theories one after another, and instead of pride he responded with resentment.

Mocked by the scientific community and estranged from his wife after their marriage collapsed, he went seven years without speaking to Kurisu. By the time the story begins, an embittered Shouichi is publicly presenting a theory lifted from an anonymous researcher known only as John Titor, and that theft is what first puts him on a collision course with Okabe.
