Meruem

Meruem is the King of the Chimera Ants and almost certainly the strongest being of his species. He was the second-to-last Ant the Queen bore; she named him herself and doted on him as she did on none of her other offspring.

His build is markedly humanoid — muscular and toned, though smaller than his own Royal Guards. Two long antennae rise from his ears, a shell-like armour covers his head like a helmet, and a scorpion tail tipped with a venomous needle can inflict mortal wounds.

He insisted on being born prematurely and tore his way out through the Queen's abdomen, leaving her bleeding to death. Like the Royal Guards, he carried no memory of any life preceding his birth.

Meruem begins as a heartless warrior who respects others only insofar as they can endure combat with him; the arrogance was built into him by the Queen's intent to produce a perfect heir. Across the arc he changes completely, becoming a kind and compassionate pacifist who values time spent with someone he cares for above his own pride.

That change runs through Komugi, the blind gungi champion and the only person who beat him again and again. Chairman Isaac Netero came against him in person. Voiced by Kōki Uchiyama.
