Synopsis
Ryuuko Matoi is the protagonist of Kill la Kill. She transfers to Honnouji Academy in search of the owner of the other half of the Scissor Blade, the weapon used to kill her father, Isshin Matoi. The only thing he left her is a mysterious sentient sailor uniform, Senketsu, which she finds in his ruined laboratory and reluctantly starts to wear.
Ryuuko is fierce, stubborn and largely fearless, confronting Satsuki Kiryuuin, the academy's all-powerful student council president, without hesitation despite being outmatched. Underneath the toughness, though, she softens considerably around the Mako Mankanshoku family, whose chaotic warmth gives her a taste of the ordinary home life she never had.
It later emerges that Ryuuko is not merely Isshin's ward but the biological daughter of Ragyou and Souichirou Kiryuuin, presumed dead as an infant after a failed attempt to fuse her with Life Fibers. Her father secretly saved her and raised her under an assumed identity, until he was murdered by Nui Harime, setting Ryuuko on her path of revenge.
