Synopsis
Mako Mankanshoku is Ryuuko Matoi's best friend and one of the series' central characters. A cheerful, boisterous no-star student at Honnouji Academy, she bonds with Ryuuko almost instantly on her first day at the school.
Mako is hyperactive and warm-hearted, prone to falling asleep in the middle of class yet completely fearless in the face of danger, and never afraid to speak her mind, even to the head of the disciplinary committee. Her family is poor and mildly obsessed with money and food, but it is within their chaotic household that Ryuuko first experiences what an ordinary home feels like.
When Mako is put in charge of the Fight Club, she surprises everyone with real organizational skill and drive. The wealth and status that come with it nearly cost her the friendship with Ryuuko, though, and once she realizes it, Mako disbands the club herself and returns to her old life for the sake of what actually matters to her.
