Synopsis
Isshin Matoi is the assumed identity under which Souichirou Kiryuuin, husband of Ragyou Kiryuuin and father of Satsuki and Ryuuko, hid himself. A brilliant scientist and Life Fiber researcher, he created Senketsu and the Scissor Blades and founded the Nudist Beach resistance.
Upon learning the truth about his wife's plans, Souichirou secretly saved his younger daughter from a Life Fiber fusion experiment, faked both her death and his own, and raised the girl alone under a new identity, an old, hunched man calling himself Isshin Matoi.
Six months before the story begins, Nui Harime broke into his laboratory on Ragyou's orders to retrieve his final invention. Isshin fought her off and managed to strike out one of her eyes with his own blade, but was ultimately mortally wounded, the event that sets Ryuuko on her search for her father's killer.
