Matarou Mankanshoku

Matarou Mankanshoku is the younger brother of Mako Mankanshoku, leading a small gang of troublemakers in the slums of Honnou City.

Matarou is a petty thief who steals to get by, a habit that constantly frustrates his mother and sister. He has no shortage of crude remarks aimed first at Ryuuko Matoi and later at Nonon Jakuzure, though underneath the bravado is a genuine attachment to his family.

His first move is trying to steal Ryuuko's wallet the moment she arrives in the city, followed by a mugging attempt with his friends that ends in a humiliating defeat. Ashamed, Matarou apologizes and comes to genuinely respect her, later even trying to protect his sister when she is taken hostage by Takaharu Fukuroda.

A short boy with brown eyes and brown hair tied into a ponytail, Matarou is usually seen in a black shirt slipping off one shoulder, cut-off shorts and white sunglasses. During the series' one-month time skip, he survives in the ravaged city with the family dog, Guts, searching for the uniform that swallowed his sister, and is ultimately rescued from the COVERS by Nonon Jakuzure and reunited with his family at the Nudist Beach base.
