Synopsis
Mito Freecss is a relative of Ging Freecss and the woman who raised Gon on Whale Island. Gon came into her care at the age of two, and when he tries to picture his mother, it is Mito's face that comes to mind.
Determined to keep the boy away from his father's profession, she told him for years that both his parents had died shortly after his birth. Only much later did she admit the truth: his father was alive and working as a Hunter. She agreed to sign his Hunter Exam application only after setting what she assumed was an impossible condition — catching the enormous fish known as the Master of the Swamp. When Gon hauled it in front of the whole harbour, she had no way out of the promise.
She is a young woman with fair skin, hazel eyes and shoulder-length orange hair, usually dressed in a red blouse over a long cream dress with a blue torc at her neck. Patient and warmly maternal, she absorbs Gon's recklessness without complaint, though she is easily embarrassed when her grandmother brings up her own childhood.
In the 2011 series she is voiced by Keiko Han — the real-life mother of Megumi Han, who plays Gon — while Akiko Kimura took the role in the 1999 adaptation.
