Synopsis
Known only as "Ear" (Japanese: Mimi), this warrior serves in Askeladd's band, his true name lost to record. The nickname comes from his extraordinary sense of hearing, the talent that made him valuable to the mercenaries. He is an older man with a pinched face, narrow eyes and a thin mustache, quiet and taciturn by nature.
Despite his role as a listener, Ear was a capable fighter who carried an axe and shield. His hearing let him tell men from animals and gauge the size and marching pace of distant troops. To work, he would press his head to the ground and demand total silence, and his comrades would halt everything to wait for his verdict. The gift had limits, though: he could not detect an ambush that stayed perfectly still, and winter snow muffled sound and shortened his reach.
While escorting Prince Canute in late 1013, Ear repeatedly warned the band of Thorkell and his five hundred pursuers, spotted enemy scouts, and sensed the armed farmers closing on Anne's village. His end is uncertain — it is unclear whether he joined the mutiny against Askeladd or was simply killed — but his severed head was later used as an archery target by Thorkell's men, and Atli recognized him among the dead.
The character is voiced by Makoto Furukawa in Japanese, with John Gremillion and Benjamin Diskin in the English dubs.
