Synopsis
Anne (Japanese: アン, An) is a teenage girl with shoulder-length auburn hair and the sole survivor of a Mercian village wiped out by Askeladd's band in December 1013. The Vikings had been escorting Canute toward the Danelaw when winter caught them and forced them to seek shelter. Anne appears as a supporting character in Vinland Saga.
Raised in a devout Christian household, Anne is deeply religious and often speaks to God in her thoughts or aloud. Yet she once gave in to temptation, stealing a ring that caught her eye at the market and hiding it in a hollow tree near her home. Talk of hell and the day of reckoning tormented her conscience, but she could never bring herself to throw the ring away.
On the very evening she wrestled with her guilt, Anne watched from a distance as Björn and Askeladd's men herded the villagers together, despite Father Willibald's attempt to warn them, and slaughtered them. Numb with shock, she wandered into an open field until she collapsed from exhaustion. Three men found her, and once they learned of the raid, the local lord sent out a force, with Thorkell soon setting off in pursuit.
Anne is voiced by Yumi Hara in Japanese, and by Jessica Boone and Kayli Mills in English.
