Synopsis
Battera is an elderly billionaire who bought a copy of Greed Island at the Southernpiece Auction for 30.5 billion and hired hundreds of players to clear it. He is a grey-haired, pale-skinned man, usually seen in a suit with a bow tie and a rose on his left side.
To the public he explained his motive in three words — "for love" — and for more than thirteen years he kept the press from getting any closer than that.
The details are these: already past his prime, he fell in love with a young woman who refused every expensive gift so that nobody would think she was after his money, accepting only a picture frame he had clumsily made himself. Just as he was preparing to give away all his assets and marry her, an accident left her in a coma.
He spent more than half his fortune trying to wake her. That devotion is what put Tsezguerra, Goreinu, Genthru and hundreds of others on his payroll. Voiced by Hideyuki Umezu in the 2011 series and Kimiyoshi Kibe in the 1999 one.
