Synopsis
Shino Asada is a skilled sharpshooter known in Gun Gale Online by her avatar name, Sinon, and later plays as a Cait Sith archer in ALfheim Online. As a child she survived an armed robbery at a post office, wrestling the gun from the assailant and accidentally killing him — an event that left her with a lasting phobia of firearms. She took up Gun Gale Online on the advice of her school friend Shinkawa Kyouji, hoping that facing virtual guns would help her overcome the trauma.
Calm and controlled in combat, Shino is more fragile beneath the surface, prone to panic if reminded of the shooting. During the Phantom Bullet incident she is targeted by the mysterious Death Gun, and it is Kirito who becomes the first person to truly provoke her anger — and, later, her trust. Despite everything, she proves capable of forgiving even Shinkawa Kyouji after his role in the case, choosing to visit him rather than abandon him.
After the arc, Shino continues facing her past directly, no longer paralyzed by the sight of a gun, and becomes one of the central figures of the series' later story as both a skilled player and a steady, dependable friend.
