Synopsis
Kyouji Shinkawa is the younger brother of Shinkawa Shouichi and plays Gun Gale Online under the avatar name Spiegel. Bullied at school and pressured by his parents to follow in their footsteps, he retreated into virtual worlds, believing that strength online could compensate for his weakness in reality. It was Kyouji who introduced his friend Shino Asada to Gun Gale Online, hoping the game would help her face her fear of firearms.
Over time his resentment curdled into obsession, particularly toward XeXeeD and other agility-focused players whose strategy advice ultimately proved to be misleading and cost Kyouji his in-game standing. That bitterness eventually pushes him toward the Death Gun killings, using real-world knowledge of his victims to stage what appear to be lethal in-game attacks.
Despite becoming the arc's final antagonist, Kyouji is not without redeeming qualities in Shino's eyes: even after everything, she chooses to forgive him and visit him afterward, still valuing the friendship that first brought her into the game.
