Synopsis
Shigeru Yahaba is a backup setter and pinch server for Aoba Johsai High, who played starting setter in place of Tooru Oikawa during Aoba Johsai's practice match against Karasuno, before Oikawa was subbed in. Despite being a reserve, Yahaba doesn't seem bothered by his limited playing time, instead cheering wholeheartedly for his upperclassmen even when the team is losing.
Beneath the calm, easygoing manner is a firmer side that surfaces when needed: Yahaba is the one who sharply lectures the unpredictable Kyoutani over missed practices and losses of composure mid-match. He's not without his own lighter flaws, though — according to Kindaichi, Yahaba can be a bit shallow, once tossing a ball toward Karasuno's new manager purely to get her attention.
As of 2021, Yahaba works as a sports instructor.
