Synopsis
Welfin is a Chimera Ant Squadron Leader who went by Zaiqahal in his human life. He looks like a humanoid wolf with long blond hair and digitigrade clawed paws, dressed in little more than a blue shirt. After a near-death encounter with Meruem, his face aged dramatically.
Before that, Welfin was ambitious, sly and careful. He intended to build standing with the Royal Guards while simultaneously ingratiating himself with Bizeff, whom he meant to control in order to become a "Shadow King" — holding power while dodging the exposure and responsibility of visible rule.
Zaiqahal's human childhood was spent under an abusive father who tried to strangle him while a woman watched without intervening; his stepbrother saved him. He later met Gyro — both felt hollow inside and therefore had nothing to hide from each other, and the friendship formed quickly.
As a Squadron Leader he is stronger than an ordinary human and than lower-ranked Ants, and he kept at least some authority over his underlings even after leaving the nest. Voiced by Daiki Nakamura.
