Synopsis
Ikuo Takabayashi is a quiet, withdrawn student in Class 3-3 who suffers from a serious heart condition that keeps him out of gym class and much of the class's routine. His maternal grandparents own an inn that later becomes an important, tragic setting for the class trip.
Despite his shyness, Ikuo shows real courage when Kouichi Sakakibara starts asking about why he and Mei Misaki are being ignored: he is willing to finally explain the situation, fully aware of what that decision might cost him given the class's unspoken rules.
Ikuo does not survive to tell Kouichi much before a sudden heart attack claims him, one of the earliest deaths tied to the class curse that summer, and his loss becomes a turning point that pushes the rest of Class 3-3 toward far stricter, more desperate measures.
