Synopsis
Stein is an eccentric but brilliant doctor and teacher, widely regarded as the strongest meister ever to graduate from the DWMA. He was once the first weapon partner of Spirit Albarn, and now teaches at the academy at Death's own request, currently partnered with Marie Mjolnir.
Stein's greatest pleasure is dissection and observation; he treats the entire world, himself included, as one continuous experiment. That same fascination with his own sensitivity to madness makes him both a brilliant scientist and a genuinely unsettling presence, prone to unnervingly sadistic jokes even at his students' expense.
Still, it's precisely his deep understanding of madness that makes Stein one of the academy's most crucial assets in the fight against the Kishin — he understands exactly what they're up against in a way almost no one else can.
