Synopsis
Erwin Smith was the 13th Commander of the Survey Corps, a discerning and widely respected leader who developed the Long-Distance Enemy Scouting Formation used throughout his career. Uncertain about his own future, he eventually named Hange Zoë as his successor.
Serious, calculating and always thinking several steps ahead, Erwin cared deeply for his men yet never hesitated to send them to their deaths when the greater good of humanity demanded it — and his soldiers proved willing to follow him regardless. As a child, curiosity about the world beyond the Walls led him to share a forbidden theory with other children, indirectly causing his father's death; he later enlisted alongside his friend Nile Dok, and the two nearly let a shared love interest come between their friendship before Erwin chose to pursue the truth about the Walls instead.
