Synopsis
Yakumo Oomori, almost universally called by his alias Yamori, was an Aogiri Tree executive and founding leader of the 13th ward gang known as the White Suits. His brutality earned him the nickname 13th Ward's Jason, and he later appears in the prequel spin-off Tokyo Ghoul: Jack as well.
Yamori's cruelty was forged through prolonged torture during his own imprisonment, which left him mirroring his interrogator's sadism as a coping mechanism — including a habit of cracking his fingers that he unintentionally passes on to Ken Kaneki. Manipulative and deceitful, he is willing to use extreme violence to get whatever he wants, viewing pain purely as a tool.
Yamori is best known for capturing and torturing Kaneki at length after the Anteiku raid, an ordeal that permanently reshapes Kaneki's personality and abilities. His eventual death at Kaneki's hands, in brutal retaliation for that torture, marks one of the series' most pivotal turning points.
