Synopsis
Yukiyo Misaki, generally called by her nickname Kirika, is Mei Misaki's aunt and adoptive mother, running the doll shop Misaki M. Studio above which she spends most of her time crafting dolls. Distant and difficult to read, she is described by Mei as treating her more like one of the shop's dolls than a daughter.
Yukiyo made Mei's prosthetic eye herself after an illness took the girl's real one, and her attachment to Mei is genuine even if poorly expressed; much of her coldness stems from the grief of losing a child of her own and from fear that Mei will leave to rejoin her biological mother.
She keeps Mei apart from her twin sister, Misaki Fujioka, for most of their childhood, a decision rooted in that same fear, and one that only adds to Mei's isolation long before Kouichi Sakakibara ever enters her life.
