Synopsis
Katsuya Mabuchi (Mabuchi Katsuya) is a Rank 1 Ghoul Investigator attached to the CCG's Division II. Throughout Tokyo Ghoul he is rarely far from his superior, Itsuki Marude, serving as the analytical right hand at Marude's side. He is easy to spot thanks to his disheveled brown hair, prominent buck teeth, and his usual outfit of a white shirt and black tie.
His route into the CCG was an unusual one. Mabuchi was once a gifted engineering student at Teihou University, where he specialized in information engineering and proved a skilled programmer. As his interest in academics faded, he threw himself into video games and rose to fame as a competitive player. An expert in first-person shooters and strategy titles, he led his team to victory at a national tournament — and it was there that Marude scouted him and brought him into Division II.
Beneath a professional demeanor, Mabuchi can be flippant, but his real gift lies in strategy and coordination. During operations he slips into a trance-like focus, typing furiously while relaying objectives to field units. It was Mabuchi who traced an anonymous tip and deduced that it had come from Hideyoshi Nagachika. In later years he headed an intelligence department and continued supporting Marude in keeping the peace across Tokyo. He is voiced by Shinya Takahashi in Japanese and Christopher Guerrero in English.
