Synopsis
Midori Kirigaya is the mother of Suguha and the aunt who adopted Kazuto after her older sister's death in 2008. An extremely busy professional, she is rarely home, often leaving before her children wake and returning only late at night, though her limited time with them never comes across as a lack of love.
She keeps Kazuto's adoption a secret for a decade, planning to tell Suguha only once she reached high school, but Kazuto's entrapment in Sword Art Online and the real possibility of his death force Midori and her husband, Minetaka, to reveal the truth to Suguha early, at his hospital bedside. The decision reshapes Suguha's understanding of her family and of her relationship with her cousin.
Midori herself has some familiarity with virtual games, having played them alongside Kazuto when he was younger, though she never approaches them with the same intensity he eventually does.
