Tatsuyoshi Kasai

Tatsuyoshi Kasai is a supporting character in Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai, a member of the Sonozaki Group employed by the Sonozaki family as a round-the-clock bodyguard for Shion Sonozaki ever since she was sent away to study at the private Saint-Lucia Academy. He is almost always on hand whenever she needs help in a difficult situation, and Mion Sonozaki notes that Shion needs a protector because "people do crazy things."

According to Shion herself, Kasai once held a leading position within the Sonozaki Group in his younger days, until a serious injury suffered in a yakuza clash forced him into safer work — serving as her personal bodyguard and driver. He drives her wherever she wants to go, occasionally stretching the boundary her family set for such trips, though he refuses to drive into Hinamizawa itself. His loyalty to her is real but not unlimited: when Shion confided that she intended to enter the Saiguden at the Furude Shrine, Kasai promised to do everything he could, while honestly admitting he could not shield her from the consequences.

A highly skilled marksman who favors a sniper rifle, Kasai shows a surprising depth of combat experience in Matsuribayashi-hen, storming the Irie Clinic and subduing members of the Yamainu by force, after which he vows never to resort to such violence again. Despite working for the man who is Akane's Husband, Kasai is said to have once carried feelings for Sonozaki Akane herself.

Physically, he is a muscular, bearded man almost always dressed in a black suit, wearing sunglasses even when in disguise — an intimidating presence whose exact age is never stated, though he is implied to be in his forties.
