Synopsis
Sonozaki Akane's husband is a minor figure in the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni franchise whose name is never given in any version of the story. He is the father of Mion Sonozaki and Shion Sonozaki, and the son-in-law of Oryou Sonozaki. He first appears in the Himatsubushi-hen arc of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai, credited as the oyabun, or boss, of a local yakuza organization.
Because he came from outside the family, his marriage to Akane Sonozaki cost her the position of heir, which passed instead to her older sister Mion; the manga adds that Akane also lost a kendo match to her mother over the matter. Oryou eventually made peace with the couple, though she still keeps up a show of public disapproval. In his few appearances he is tall and physically imposing, dressed in a dark suit with a small organizational pin, wearing glasses and a mustache; the manga depicts him younger and in a traditional kimono.
He comes across as quiet and even-tempered: he grimaces silently alongside his wife over Shion's behavior toward Oryou rather than intervening, and addresses his mother-in-law as "Mother." When Keiichi Maebara nervously jokes about his yakuza ties, he stays unruffled. In the "Confrontation" episode of Minagoroshi-hen, he calmly admits his organization's indirect responsibility for Satoko Houjou's ordeal: the yakuza's brutal punishment of Rina Mamiya for stealing from them drove Teppei Houjou back to Hinamizawa, where he resumed custody and abuse of Satoko. He and Akane are largely absent from their daughters' daily lives, but he still knows about their friends, like Keiichi, from what the girls tell him.
