Synopsis
Kyouko Kaneki is a Class 3-3 student best known for her close friendship with Aki Matsui, whom she treats with a protective, almost sisterly care throughout the story. Serious but sociable, she is rarely seen without Aki nearby, and the two share a room during the class trip that becomes central to the year's tragedy.
When chaos breaks out at the inn late in the story, Kyouko's first instinct is to get herself and Aki to safety rather than take part in the growing panic around them, choosing to flee the building rather than confront anyone. That instinct to protect her friend defines her right up to her final moments.
Kyouko and Aki's deaths, occurring together at the hands of the same classmate, become one of the more devastating losses of the class trip, discovered shortly afterward by Kouichi Sakakibara in the aftermath of the night's violence.
